Lower elevations have a predominance of pine and hemlock forest, whereas elevations over 3500 meters have a predominance of silver fir, birch, rhododendron, and juniper trees. Some of the notable occupations include raising yaks, growing potatoes, and growing barley. The majority of young people in the area work seasonally as trekking and climbing guides.
